Nanomedicine and Nanoscale Delivery (Focus Group – NND)

Casein-PAA micelles enhance vortioxetine solubility, penetration, and oral bioavailability.

Introduction:

Vortioxetine (VTX) is a serotonergic antidepressant with poor water solubility, fast metabolism, and low oral absorption. Though marketed as a hydrobromide salt to improve solubility, this form often causes respiratory and digestive side effects. To overcome these issues, we developed two novel formulations: a VTX-casein (CAS) complex based on maximum binding capacity, and a VTX-polymeric nano micelle using a “Sandwich Technique.” Both approaches enhance VTX's dissolution, swelling, adhesion, and mucosal penetration for improved oral delivery.
