In response to the raising demand for multifunctional excipients (1), preferably of natural origin, that could accelerate the design of patient-friendly enabling formulations, we focus, for the first time, on the functionality of a biocompatible dipeptide, L-carnosine (2). Our goal is to prepare amorphous solid dispersions loaded with a model acidic drug bosentan hydrate (3). The safety of L-carnosine is well-established (4), and therefore; it can be considered as an interesting carrier that may enhance the solubility and oral absorption of bosentan (BOS).
