Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) raises colorectal cancer risk and relates to gut microbiota dysbiosis and barrier impairment[1,2]. Mesalazine (MLZ), first-line drug, shows low colonic bioavailability due to rapid metabolism [3]. Complementary therapies like probiotics (PROB) and sodium butyrate (BUT) help restore gut health [4,5]. Colon-selective polymers such as chitosan (CS), retrograded starch (RS), and pectin (P) enable targeted delivery. This study designs a nano-in-microparticle (NMP) system: CS nanoparticles with BUT co-encapsulated in RS and P microparticles containing MLZ and PROB via spray-drying.
