Pulmonary infections caused by bacterial biofilms, including non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease and cystic fibrosis (CF), are challenging to treat due to limited antibiotic penetration and bacterial resistance. Inhalable liposomal drug delivery systems offer an effective strategy for targeted pulmonary delivery and enhanced biofilm penetration. The combination of levofloxacin (LEV) and polymyxin B (PMB) may provide complementary antibacterial mechanisms to enhance antibiofilm efficacy. This study aimed to develop inhalable liposomal formulations co-encapsulating LEV and PMB using a microfluidic approach to enhance pulmonary delivery and antibiofilm efficacy.
