Hyperphosphatemia is a critical mortality risk factor in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), accelerating vascular calcification. Current standard treatments rely on oral phosphate binders (e.g., sevelamer, PA21), but these often suffer from poor patient adherence due to high pill burden and gastrointestinal toxicity. There is an urgent need for a safer, more potent oral alternative. This study introduces "CKD nutrabiotics," a bioengineered living therapeutic designed to actively accumulate intestinal inorganic phosphate as intracellular polyphosphate, offering a paradigm shift in the management of hyperphosphatemia.
