Nanotechnology-based approaches are promising alternatives for ulcerative colitis (UC) due to facilitated interaction with the intestinal mucosa (1). Their formulation in hybrid system (HS) (2), using chitosan (CS) and pectin (3), enable their protection along the gastrointestinal tract.
This work describes HS based on nanoemulsion (NE) and chitosan (CS) and low-methoxyl pectin (DM< 50%). The effect of the surfactants for NE stabilization on the HS formation is described, for achieving conditions that enable HS to be less than 5 μm.
The in vivo distribution of the HS was determined after oral administration to CD-1 mice and compared to the profiles obtained for NE and nanocapsules.
