Permeation of Formoterol into Human Skin and Local Skin Irritation Response

Introduction:

The WHO has declared a global obesity crisis, as obesity rates are rising worldwide with around 43 % of adults being overweight in 2022. Formoterol (FF), a β₂ agonist, is a promising agent against obesity, due to its ability to induce thermogenesis [1]. To avoid systemic side effects, topical application is beneficial. FF solutions can permeate rat skin [2], but the investigation of permeation across human skin is pending. This study examines the feasibility of FF permeation into human skin and evaluates the skin sensitivity properties of FF.
