Professor Helen Colley (University of Sheffield, UK) is an expert in epithelial cell biology and tissue engineering, in particular the construction and use of 3D multi-cellular models. Her laboratory have developed and characterised advanced full-thickness constructs to model human skin and oral mucosa to assist in understanding the biology in health and disease. Using these systems, her current research focuses on the development of novel epidermal-specific therapeutics and drug delivery devices. She has recently developed an electrospun mucoadhesive patch that has successfully completed phase IIb clinical trials for the delivery of corticosteroids to topically treat inflammatory mucosal diseases.
