Introduction: Lidocaine is widely used in dental practice, primarily as injectable formulations that are invasive and associated with pain and anxiety [1]. Topical lidocaine products offer limited depth and duration of anaesthesia due to short mucosal residence time [2-3]. To address these limitations, this study proposes an oromucosal reservoir delivery system (ORDS) designed to enhance mucosal retention and provide sustained local anaesthesia for dental procedures.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the design rationale of an oromucosal reservoir delivery system for lidocaine
Explain formulation and fabrication strategies used to optimize pouch integrity
Assess the potential clinical benefits of sustained oromucosal dental anaesthesia
