Dapsone (DAP), a weakly basic bacteriostatic sulfone, is used for treating infectious & other inflammatory diseases. DAP can also be repurposed for treating various cancers. However, its poor aqueous solubility and dissolution in the gut fluids limit its oral bioavailability. Carboxymethyl ethyl cellulose (CMEC) is a less explored enteric polymer with potential applications in oral drug delivery. This study focuses on developing CMEC-DAP amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) and optimizing the composition of ASDs using microscopic image analysis tools, followed by in vitro and in vivo studies.
