Co-delivery of TRAIL and hydroxycamptothecin by enzyme-activatable disk-shaped nanocarriers

Introduction:

The appropriate positive charge on nanodrug surface favors their cellular uptake and tumor penetration abilities. Moreover, the anisotropic non-spherical carriers have superior tumor penetration capability than spherical carriers [1], such as disk-shaped liposomes. We designed a novel disk-shaped drug delivery system (TH-ND^PEP) to delivery TRAIL and hydroxycamptothecin（HCPT） for breast cancer treatment. Upon reaching tumor tissues, TH-ND^PEP became positively charged. The positive charge and disk-shaped structure can penetrate deeper in tumor tissues, possessing strong antitumor efficacy.
