Ionic liquids are organic salts composed of organic cations and organic/inorganic anions, with melting points below 100℃. Recently, ionic liquids have gained attention in the pharmaceutical field for their ability to solubilize active pharmaceutical ingredients and improve bioavailability mainly in transdermal administration. We showed that the ionic liquid 1 (IL1) we possess causes oral absorption of a 10 kDa dextran, which have never absorbed through from intestine. Herein, we aimed to expand the utility of ionic liquids for nasal absorption of mid-sized macromolecules.
